GEWA B - GEWA C

Rolled finned tubes (also known as chiller-tubes) have been developed with microstructures on the outside and inside surface.

The main applications are flooded shell-and-tube condensers and evaporators and inundated evaporators in tube bundles (in combination with HFC refrigerants).

These special structures allow improved heat transfer resulting in an increased overall heat performance of the tubes, which is much higher than the one of standard low fin tubes. Thanks to these characteristics, tube lengths can be reduced, which result in easier and less expensive, tube bundles. Furthermore, a considerable amount of refrigerant can be economized.

High-efficiency finned tubes are tested in our own refrigeration test lab, i.e. thermal measurements and equation calculations. This enables us to develop special software for various refrigeration applications and to offer computer aided thermal calculations. We offer our customers software for individual interpretation of shell-and-tube heat exchangers.

Detailed information about dimensions and alloys can be found in individual data sheets. GEWA C and GEWA CLF. High-efficiency finned tubes for shell-and-tube condensers and GEWA-B high-efficiency finned tubes for flooded evaporators.

Low-finned and double enhanced tubes (GEWA-N, -K, -KS) are most commonly used for the de bottlenecking of shell-and-tube heat exchangers within existing process units.

Typically, the required heat duty of heat exchangers can be increased in the range of 1.5 to 3.0 versus the existing plain tube solution, based on the individual process conditions. This kind of bundle replacements is especially useful within the typical situations of severe space limitations. The replacement bundles can be installed during planned shutdowns at a minimum of time and other reconstruction efforts.

The GEWA-PB tube, a double enhanced boiling tube, is especially attractive at small temperature approaches (< 5 K). The typical application situation of the GEWA-PB tube is for the shell side nucleate boiling with clean short hydrocarbons (C2, C3) in various separation and refrigeration systems. For new applications the use of low-finned and double enhanced tubes leads to significant cost reductions (investment, operation, decommissioning). E.g., for large units the number of shells per unit is reduced and the piping arrangement can be more simplified. Besides this, the investments in piping, foundation and structures can be significantly reduced.

Based on a wide range of references within a lot of first time applications, the use of Wieland tubes can be justified as 'proven technology'. Over the years a wide range of references has been realized together with key clients within the refining, the petrochemical as well as the gas processing industry.
